02-04-11
And up north it’s freezing cold
And this a-livin’ on the road, is getting kinda old
233 miles
“No Room at the Inn”
(The Weather Channel Lies!)
Checked out of the Bat Masterson Room after another record breaking cold night.
Luckily it was all warm and toasty inside.
Went ot the Tombstone Library to plot out where to go. I had planned to go to Safford near the New Mexico border in preparation for the next week. But it seems like anywhere I go there before next Wednesday I am bound to repeat the same cold trend I’ve been experiencing here these last few days and rain is in the forecast for Wednesday.
So, I’ll either postpone of shorten my week in New Mexico.
The Weather Channel shows Safford being colder than the Apache junction area.
So I determine to back track. Ican still leave the state by taking the 60 east through Globe to Safford and then thru Lordsberg probably to Las Cruces.
I also arrange to get mail sent to me while I wait for the warm up.
Sent care of “General Delivery”.
I should find out by Tuesday if this will be a good option for receiving things in the future.
The drive is long and we make frequent stops much to the delight of Mischa. And this keeps me from falling asleep at the wheel. Cold weather really saps my energy as well as my age, my hands and my face.
I am reminded of an old SciFi question of how would you prefer the universe to end/ With an explosion like the big bang or by heat death where the universe keeps expanding until all suns have extinguished and all heat is gone. Give me the sudden big bang! Dante was right when he wrote the center of hell is frozen over.
We make it back to the Phoenix area and before setting up camp I check out two places that advertised Mac’s and Mac repairs on Craigslist before I left. The first says the repair to my old mac laptop would cost more than the laptop is worth (certainly more tha I paid for it.) and he gives me a coupon for the other place I had planned to explore. They have “Older” mac laptops for sale (certainly newer than mine) and I find two adequate options: for $249 & 299 respectively.
Something to strive for. This process would be so much more effective with that tool!
I go back to the Lost Dutchman state Park to camp.
Oh, No! Even their overflow area is full!
The refer me to other places . A few miles down the road at the Goldfields Campground is where we spend the night. TWC said it would be a low of 29.
Hell, it was 19!
