And the wind began to howl
32 Miles
I
leave Red Cliffs after a night of raging winds and stars. I’ll either
stay at Quail Creek (3 miles from here/$15 a night) or continue to
Kanab.
I have 4 days left in Utah and I need to get some interviews and write more..
Sand Canyon has showers for $3 more than Quail Creek so I decide to stay there hoping it will be less wind prone.
I decide to stay because there’s not rush to get to Kanab and I am
learning about the town of Hurricane (Pronounced Her-a Kin, don’t say it
wrong!) I can access the internet for an hour each day at the library
in town and maybe find someone to interview.
I look for a book
store to see if I can find a used copy of “Travels with Charlie” or the
Turkel books. No luck, but I engage the owner of The Book Arbor,
Margaret Sorenson, for an interview.
She is kind and willing to
go along but I get a sense of incredulity and hesitance from her .
Perhaps it’s my presentation or attire, or lack of surety in asking the
questions. Or maybe it’s the cheap little micro-recorder.
I head
back to camp and prepare for the night. The site is kinda bare bones.
The only thing to recommend it is the shower. Red Cliffs was even more
developed and easy to use. I learn as I go. The night is about as windy
as the night before but colder. I attribute it to the wind coming over
the reservoir. Mischa looks at me like “I told you so”! Ah, what does
She know!
