01-29-11 - Can you help me beat the rain?

01-29-11
I said, can you help me beat the rain?
30.2 miles
The morning of depression brightens as a longtime friend and new Benefactor, Michael Paskevich came thru for me on the time plan. His timely infusion of $95 changed my bleak outlook of $4.00 to a bright and hopeful $99.00 to get moving to Flagstaff and beyond tomorrow just as news of a new storm threatening this area late Sunday started circulating.
This gave me a chance up on my writing and take some pictures I’d missed the day before of Glen canyon Dam and Lake Powell from the Weaweap Overlook.
Amazing views!
And this time I could enjoy time because flashing coolant warning light was gone! I went to use the library but was only given 15 minutes. I found out later I could by a ½ hour for $3 or an Hour for $5. I was also told of an internet café. They were roughly the same rates. My Macbook (G3) had no usb connections (old Nubus connector); no wifi capabilities (though I could with a PCMCIA card or airport card) and only works by a/c plug in
Upon learning that I could type my notes into my computer and then connect via Ethernet at the internet café, I rushed back to my tent to start typing all those notes into my word processor program so I could upload them to my Face book & Blog pages (My campsite had an electric outlet!)
Only on plugging in the laptop did I discover that the power connector coupling had been pushed in and was not sending power to the computer. The socket was loose and undoubtedly pushed in during on of the many almost daily packing and un-packing of my car. I was told Knolls or Nolls electrical in Flagstaff Might be able to help. My plan is to get to Flagstaff and head south before 3pm. Hoping to find a AAA office and BLM office open on Sunday. Right!
Hopefully my campbook & Arizona /New Mexico map will get me thru Sunday. I expect long driving miles before the day is over tomorrow. That’s why tonight is so nice. Time to write, catch up and rest. Not Pack!
And only about 2i1 miles driven on the day (so far)!
The day goes so quickly in early winter. The sun isn’t full & warm until just after 8am and packing usually takes me to 10 or 11 am. I hope to be on my way around 9:30 - 10 am tomorrow.
Riding the storm out. And perhaps a side tri[p to Winslow, Az.
Last time I was there (‘89), there wasn’t a statue, but a girl in a flat bed truck Did slow down!
Not to look at me…there was a stop sign. Remember, I was standing on a corner! Bound to be a stop sign nearby.
The sun is warm on my back, but I feel the temperature start to drop ever so slightly. Shadows lengthen. There is just the hint of a bite in the breeze.. The sand un der my feet could be the sand of Doheny aside from it’s redness and there are probably more boats in the water & marina facilities here than in Dana Point…and we’re in the middle of a friggin’ desert! But the ways and inlets of lake power go for miles and miles up the Colorado River. A little rest tonight to drive to Phoenix? Quartzite? Tucson? I’ll know by days end tomorrow.
And Egypt?
And Olbermann off of MSNBC?
Maybe things Are getting worse.
